After all, dropping points against PSG could put them in danger of missing out on the knockout stages, with Leipzig also in the mix. This is a dangerous group and will require Pep Guardiola to deploy full-strength teams to combat PSG and Leipzig. Even Club Brugge could sneak a draw if the boss isn’t careful. As for Zenit and Malmo, Chelsea could have had worse opponents from Pots 3 and 4. Granted a trip to St Petersburg isn’t ideal and nor is Sweden in the winter, but Tuchel will be confident of topping this group at 11/20, potentially with a game to spare. Chelsea were 8/1 to win the Champions League before the draw and are now 7/1. Those odds will only slim further over time.

Atletico under the lights at Anfield will be a thrilling spectacle that the Reds should edge – although the match odds will likely be tight.

Liverpool’s life isn’t made much easier by a group also consisting of Porto and Milan. The Portuguese side reached the Champions League quarter-finals last term and actually signed Marko Grujic from Liverpool over the summer. Milan, meanwhile, could prove tricky with Olivier Giroud in their arsenal and boss Stefano Pioli making steady progress at the San Siro.

Young Boys wraps up Group F – the Swiss side have the fifth-lowest coefficient ranking in the competition. Three years ago United beat Young Boys home and away with little difficultly, and six points should be assured here.

Granted, Villarreal may send chills down the spines of some fans but realistically this is United’s group to top at 7/10. And at 20/1 to win the competition, there are certainly worse teams to back.
